Happiness is . . .

a dozen books on hold at your local library.  Do something good for your heart today.

  1. Okay, so this brings tears to my maternal eyes cuz it reminds me so much of the kids' love for all things books and libraries starting way back when. When we lived in smaller communities with small public libraries, the limit on books per child was 10, and it was very hard on each of mine. When there was no limit, the PILE of books they would bring home was big enough to start our own library. It was a big highlight of their week to go to the library. Their reading time at home (and this was AFTER schoolwork!) had to be limited or that's all they would do (almost). I'm sure they could tell stories of how they broke the rules and sneaked in more reading time anyway!

As a home-educating mother, I can remember the simple wisdom of keeping in perspective that the children should learn to read to read to learn. This lifted what could have otherwise been a burdensome perspective for what it would take to successfully educate them. It proved true for them then and still does today.
